Things you didn't know about google 13 October, 2008

  1. The name "Google" is a spelling error. The founders of the site thought they were going for "Googol".
  2. The reason the Google page is so bare is becuase the founders didn't know HTML and just wanted a quick interface.
  3. Google started as a research project by Larry Page and Sergery Brin when they were 24 and 23 years old respectively.
  4. Google receives about 200 million search queries each day from every part of the world, including Antartica & Vetican.

If Architects Had to Work Like Web Designers! 13 October, 2008

Posted on A List Apart, author unknown, but probably a contract web developer having attended too many client meetings. I find this incredibly funny, but maybe that's just because I'm also a web developer myself.

Dear Mr. Architect:

Please design and build me a house. I am not quite sure of what I need, so you should use your discretion. My house should have somewhere between two and forty-five bedrooms. Just make sure the plans are such that the bedrooms can be easily added or deleted. Brainstorm several floorplans and then bring them to me so that I can randomly combine them in a totally nonsensical, structurally unsound, configuration that makes perfect sense to me, but will cause my dinner guests to go permanently missing.    Continue Reading..
